THAI COOKING
CLASSES
Thammasat Tha Prachan has teamed up with
the local community to organize monthly Cooking
Classes by well-known vendors who have contributed
to the community’s reputation as a food-haven.
Past outdoor cooking classes have featured how to
make “Bok-kia” (a Hainan Chinese icy dessert),
“Patonggo” (a 45-year-old recipe for the Thai style
deep-fried sticky peanut bread), and “Tub Tim HISTORICAL AND
Krob” (with crunchy and refreshing water chestnut VIBRANT
pieces wrapped in chewy dough in rich and creamy
coconut milk). COMMUNITIES
The Tha Prachan and Tha Maharaj community
is located on Prachan Road in the historically rich
Rattanakosin Island area of Old Bangkok. Located
on the east bank of the Chao Phraya river, the
community is surrounded by rich cultural
heritage sites and tourist attractions of Thai arts,
museums, The Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun
(The Temple of Dawn). Also, Thai style restaurants
abound, serving up all kinds of foods, with delightful
riverside views.
Bang Lamphu, a neighborhood in the old town
community, offers many sites of historical and
cultural importance and is internationally famous for
its nightlife. Take a walk in the late afternoon or early
evening and head towards Khaosan Road to unwind
with food, drink and the exciting nightlife. Or just
people-watch from a sidewalk café and connect with
travelers from around the world. Khaosan Road’s
reputation is that of “Backpackers Central”.
