Signif cant Event that Shaped His Ideals
When he was studying in school, several important events,
both domestic and foreign incidents, had, more or less, af ected and
inf uenced thought and perception of Master Pridi.
For example, one of these events occurred on October 23
rd
1910 when King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V) passed away. And in
the following year, on October 10 1911, Dr. Sun Yat-sen revolved
th
against the old regime and found democracy in China. Master Pridi
learned about this in his classroom, from history and geography
teachers. Another important incident was when the Chinese people
in the Krung Kao area or the old city removed their queue in order to
signify the end of the old regime.
Then in 1912, an insurgency, which was known as ‘The
Insurgency of the year 130 of the Rattanakosin Era’, occurred in the
capital. Master Pridi gave so much attention to this event, which was
not less important than his opportunity to meet with ‘Tianwhan’, and
to discuss with ‘Gor. Sor. Ror. Kularb’ in person.
One other event was the change of regime in Russia in
1918.
Education in Higher Education
In 1917, Mr. Pridi returned to the capital, to attend higher
education, by passing the entrance examination into the Law School
of the Ministry of Justice. Mr. Siang entrusted him to live at Barn
Pakklongsarn of Phraya Chaiwichit Wisitthammathada (Mr. Kham
Na Pompejra) and Lady Peng, distant relatives of Mr. Siang.
Moreover, Mr. Pridi attended French Language Class with Mr. E.
Ladeker, a French teacher of the Bar Association.
