Afterward, in 1924, Mr. Pridi relocated from Caen, to
attend further education for doctoral degree in Paris where he lived
at Quartier-Latin.
In this curriculum, Mr. Pridi had to study for another 2
semesters, where in the 1 semester, he studied 4 subjects, namely,

Extraordinary Chronicle of Law, Roman Law Translation and
Research, Extraordinary Roman Law, and Profound Roman Law.
In the 2 semester, the curriculum focused on comparative study

of signif cant branches of law, and concluded with presentation of
the thesis, before the graduated may receive the doctoral degree,
Docteur en Droit (mention sciences juridiques).
Studying of Roman Jurisprudence
(Ratio Scripta)
One noteworthy aspect of this curriculum for doctorate
degree was, academic education and training of advance
contemplation herein was based on Roman Jurisprudence, which
was regarded by the entire European jurisprudence as Ratio
Scripta (written reason – a system of cause and ef ect that has
been recorded in written). This should have profoundly reminded Mr.
Pridi of the mission that jurisprudence had over the world, over the
European culture, and most importantly, over Siam.
Or to put it simply, jurisprudence was a science that is
based on rationality and not on intention, power, or discretion of any
individual; and therefore, jurisprudence was a necessary concept
that should be cultivated in Siam. And most importantly, one must
not forget that jurisprudence was an intellectual insight, and the
genuine base of the entire European region’s law system (Civil Law).
Thesis for Doctoral Degree
Mr. Pridi graduated with the government doctoral degree
in 1926, as the f rst doctor in this f eld of our country, where he
