Declaration of Peace
Once Japan surrendered to the Allies, as the Regent,
Mr. Pridi issued a declaration, which was undersigned by His
Majesty Ananda Mahidol, dated August 16 1945. The declaration’s

substance covered denying the government’s actions, which were
contradicted with the law and against the United Nations and
emphasized that Thailand wishes for peace and for restoration of
good relationships and cooperation with other nations, in order to
create stabilized co-existence in the world. This declaration served
as an important milestone that the war has ended, and Thailand was
not part of the defeated countries as Japan did.
His Majesty Ananda Mahidol
Returning to the Country
As the Regent, Mr. Pridi invited His Majesty Ananda
Mahidol back to the country, in order for His Majesty to manage
the country’s af airs by himself. Finally, His Majesty returned to the
country on December 5 1945.

Royal Command to Praise Him
as the Senior Statesman
On December 8 1945, His Majesty Ananda Mahidol

issued Royal Command to praise Mr. Pridi Banomyong as ‘the senior
statesman’ and appointed him “with the duty as a counselor for
state’s af airs, for the country’s further prosperity.”
Administrative Works as the Prime Minister
Mr. Pridi f rst assumed position of prime minister between
March 24 and June 3 1946; the second time was between June 8
